Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 1–2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (add more if needed for full coating)
  • 30 Milk Chocolate Blossoms

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in eggs, 1 tablespoon of food coloring, and vanilla.
  4. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients. If dough appears pink, add more food coloring until you reach a deep red color.
  5. Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).
  6. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into tablespoon-sized balls, then coat generously in powdered sugar. Place 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove cookies from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before gently pressing a Milk Chocolate Blossom into the center of each cookie.
  9. Let cookies cool for an additional 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
